At Orica we have implemented a performance-based culture driven by personal accountability for delivering results.
Within the company the culture is called "Deliver the Promise" and is defined by four key principles that guide how we act and behave.
Safety, Health and Environment
- Take care of yourself, others and the environment
- Make safety your first priority
- Strive to improve our SH&E performance
Commercial Ownership
- Achieve great financial results
- Relentless pursuit of the best business outcomes
- Vigorous approach to costs
Clever Customer Solutions
- Listen to your customers and help them succeed
- Find clever solutions that add value
- Drive change and respond quickly to opportunities
Working Together
- Embrace diversity to grow the business
- Behave respectfully, with integrity and recognise the contribution of others
- Communicate openly, and never stop learning
Our employees were responsible for developing these key principles and have incorporated them into our performance management process. Annual objectives are set within the framework of the principles and our activities and behaviours, both as individuals and as a company, are constantly measured against the principles. In short, if we say we’re going to do something, we do it!
Successful implementation of a performance-based culture has been essential as part of a three-fold approach to turning around the fortunes of the company that also included efficiency and strategy. All three elements of this approach continue to be relevant as we move forward.
