Quenching

Definition

In the context of the thermal oxidiser (at the Botany GTP), the rapid reduction in the temperature of the combustion gases exiting the thermal oxidiser by spraying them with large quantities of liquid. The cooling primarily occurs through the evaporation of the liquid.
