Total Earth Pressure Cells
Total Earth Pressure Cells are designed to measure stress acting on plane surfaces with the option of mounting ears or none, depending on installation method.
Overview
Overview
Total Earth Pressure Cells are constructed from two circular stainless steel plates, welded together around their periphery. The annular space between these plates is filled with deaired glycol. The cell is connected via a stainless steel tube to a transducer forming a closed hydraulic system. The stress acting on the plates is then transferred to the pressure transducer assembly and may be remotely monitored using either a portable readout unit or data loggers.
RST Total Earth Pressure Cells are calibrated as a complete assembly (rather than just the sensor) to capture the calibration of the complete cell for highest quality of data.
Total Earth Pressure Cells are typically installed at interfaces between soil embankments or interconnecting concrete to help determine stresses acting on those locations to provide insight on its behavior during civil or mining construction projects.
For situations where dynamic or live readings are required, such as in rail applications, the option of using a Strain Gauge Output Total Earth Pressure Cell is preferable to enable this functionality, due to its stability at higher sampling frequencies compared with Vibrating Wire signal output which is more susceptible to vibration influences.
