Sculpture project underway
18 Jul 2015
On Saturday 18 July, a marble splitting ceremony was held at Newcastle’s Foreshore Park for the Resilience Sculpture Project. The project involves the creation of a sculpture to increase mental illness awareness.
Orica Kooragang Island is helping to fund the public artwork through its Community Investment Program. Local sculptor, Roger McFarlane, will spend six weeks in the park carving two huge blocks of marble sourced from Greece.
Once completed, the sculpture will offer a peaceful place for quiet contemplation and reflection, a place for community events, and a meeting place for carers and individuals touched by mental illness.
