A global response to COVID-19
01 Apr 2020
The spread of COVID-19 continues to have a significant impact on the world. Like many organisations, Orica is adapting its working practices as the situation continues to evolve, to ensure the safety of our people, customers and communities.
Our dedicated Global and Regional Response Teams meet regularly to respond to the impacts in their respective communities. As a truly global company, Orica is delivering country and region-specific responses in different stages, and at different times, in accordance with risk-based measures, local conditions and government regulations.
Safety is our number one priority
The safety of our people, and those we work with remains our highest priority, and we are taking measures to ensure we protect the health and safety of our employees across the world. To this end, we’re adopting new ways of working.
Employees who can work from home are now doing so. Our people working in critical frontline and manufacturing roles are keeping our operations running safely and are on rotating rosters with stringent health and hygiene protocols in place to protect them.
We have deferred all non-essential international and domestic travel, and have introduced health and safety guidelines, including social distancing measures, to all of our office spaces and manufacturing sites.
Action response plans for sites and offices are in place for any employee who suspects they have been exposed to, or is confirmed positive for, COVID-19.
While alternate work arrangements are in place, our aim is to run the business as normally as we can, ensuring we’re protecting the health and safety of people on our sites and our customers’ sites.
Our corporate and regional response teams have identified the critical areas to focus on.
We are ensuring there is minimal impact at our manufacturing centres and operations in order to continue servicing our customers globally. Our teams in each region have plans in place to continue to support business continuity across the company.
In some parts of our business, local restrictions have meant operations and manufacturing have had to be suspended, but we are managing this safely, supporting our people, and readying ourselves to recommence operations as soon as possible.
Supporting the global recovery
The mining and resources industries will play a critical role in supporting local economies and the global recovery from the impact of COVID-19. The demand for our products plays a vital role in the supply chain, and we will continue to support our customers, communities, charity partners and the wider industry throughout these challenging times. We are all in this together.
