Leaders from across the resources sector gathered at the Melbourne Mining Club today, headlined by Orica Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Gandhi in conversation with AFR’s James Thomson.

The session brought to life the evolving dynamics shaping the global mining industry, with Sanjeev reflecting on Orica’s more than 150-year legacy supporting resources customers while outlining a clear vision for the future. At the centre of the conversation was Orica’s “mine-to-mill” approach, integrating blasting, digital technologies and mining chemicals to unlock greater value and efficiency for customers.

A key theme throughout the discussion was resilience in an increasingly complex global environment. Sanjeev emphasised the critical role of Orica’s global supply chain network, noting that supply security has become a defining advantage as geopolitical and market and policy uncertainties continue to challenge the sector.

Technology and innovation were also front and centre. From AI-driven insights to advanced data analytics, the conversation explored how digital capabilities are transforming decision-making, improving safety outcomes and enhancing operational performance across mining operations.
